A day workshop with writer Mark Connors focusing on how to plan and start writing a novel. We will look at character, plot and setting via selected texts and put pen to paper with writing exercises to help formulate ideas or expand on ideas you may already have. 

The aim of this workshop is to get our first chapters up and running. And the really tricky bit – to keep going. We will also look at how not to write our novels to avoid the trapdoors that many first time novelists fall through. 

 There will also be a Q & A session with the course tutor, a published and critically acclaimed novelist, where participants can ask about all aspects of writing a novel, seeking publication and beyond. MONTHLY LIFE DRAWING

Working directly from a life model we will focus on observational skills, proportions of the body and composition. With regards technique, you will use a range of materials from acrylics and watercolour to charcoal and oil pastel. 

Each month is different, with something new each time. For Intermediate students or returners, you will use the model and materials to practise and improve. Our tutor will be on hand to advise and direct your learning.

INTRODUCTION TO LINO PRINTING

Our theme for this session will be cacti & succulents, you can either free draw or trace before carving out your Lino printing block. Under guided tuition you will learn how to use inks, tools and practice method to make a Lino cut block that you can use time and time again.

The block can be used for cards, tags, wrap, or even you very own logo stamper. On the workshop we will be making a series of mini prints. No experience necessary, just turn up and have a play.

COFFEE SCHOOL

This workshop is pitched at beginners and is run by our head barista Ged. Whether you want to understand a little more about how coffee is made or how to get the most out of your machine at home, we will take you through the basics.

Within the 2 hour workshop you will understand how to grind coffee, make key drinks on the menu, steam and foam milk as well as having a go at trying to master latte art.

DIY REUPHOLSTERY

DESCRIPTION

Revamp your home by learning how to do basic re-upholstery. Forage for a lovely footstool or dining room chair (with a drop in seat) and learn how to glam it up to take pride of place in your home.

Note:Equipment, staples, and tacks provided.Materials to complete your chair will need to be bought direct from the tutor on the day (approx £5, depending on amount needed.

Outer fabric – You will need to bring this with you. Measure your chair and allow 20cms all the way around.Just phone us if you are struggling to source outer fabric or chair...we would be happy to help.

Although our tutor is very experienced and can start you off on any reupholstery project, if your chair is more complicated than a drop in seat you won’t get it finished within the session
