GARDEN WALK - YORK GATE GARDEN

Leeds' very own key example of a 20th-century Arts and Crafts-inspired garden, designed by Sybil, Robin and Frederick Spencer and now in the care of the gardening charity Perennial. The day will focus on looking at York Gate Garden as an example of garden design.

We will start with an overview of garden design principles and then walk through York Gate Garden to see examples of how to put the principles into practice, to explore the hard materials used and the planting design.

York Gate draws on design elements of grand gardens to make small spaces work beautifully and it's a garden with lots of take-home ideas. There'll be plenty of time for discussion, questions, sketching, photography and note-taking and the day will end with a summary of what participants have learned and how they might use it in their own gardens.
